POSITION: Industrial Maintenance Mechanic (non-exempt, hourly); Waterloo, Iowa STATUS: Full-Time, Permanent REPORTS TO: Plant Manager JOB SUMMARY: Perform routine maintenance of equipment in accordance with manufacturer guidelines. Ensure efficient and safe performance of plant equipment through utilizing a thorough understanding of mechanical operation of machinery. Carry out maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs so that a quality product can be delivered to the customer in a timely manner. Primarily responsible for ongoing equipment maintenance, detecting and diagnosing problems, repairing and replacing parts in order to establish optimal equipment functioning. KEY TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES: Ensures operation of machinery and mechanical equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements on engines, motors, pneumatic tools, conveyor systems, and production machines; following diagrams, sketches, operations, manuals, manufacturer's instructions, and engineering specifications; troubleshooting malfunctions. Locates sources of problems by observing mechanical devices in operation; listening and watching for problems; using precision measuring and testing instruments. Removes defective parts by dismantling devices; using hoist, cranes and hand power tools. Adjusts functional parts of devices and control instruments by using required tools. Controls downtime by informing production workers of routine preventive maintenance techniques; monitoring compliance. Maintains equipment, parts, and supplies inventories by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed equipment, parts, and supplies; placing and expediting orders; verifying receipt. Conserves maintenance resources by using equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish job results. Maintains continuity with management by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs. Maintains safe and cleans working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations. Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed. May need to step in to Material Handler position when/if needed. SKILLS & ATTRIBUTES REQUIREMENTS: Electrical (3-phase, PLC, starters, relays) and Mechanical (Belt and Screw, Conveyors, Compressors, Blowers, Gear Boxes, Mixers etc.) Equipment Maintenance, strong technical understanding of electricity and mechanical ability, deals with uncertainty, works safely, use of power tools, attention to detail, shift flexibility, job knowledge, productivity, physically able to lift, bend, stoop, climb ladders and work in high areas as needed. EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: High School diploma or general education degree (GED); or two to five years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of training and experience. 2 to 5 years of maintenance experience Physical ability to safely operator motorized vehicles (tow motor, forklift. railcar mover) WORK ENVIRONMENT: Often it is required to work on outside areas, exposed the weather elements like extreme heat or cold depending on the season Occasionally exposed to airborne particulates, dust and caustic chemicals/raw materials The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
