The Position Summary Responsible for initiating, directing and executing scientific research, development and manufacturing process strategies to support new and existing products. Investigates the feasibility of applying a wide variety of scientific principles and concepts to potential inventions, products and problems. Plans and executes laboratory research. Maintains broad knowledge of state-of-the art principles and theories. Makes contributions to scientific literature and conferences. Serves as an in-house and outside consultant. May act as a spokesperson for corporate scientific affairs and advise top management. Participates in development of patent applications. Promotes and participates in the professional development of scientists and laboratory facilities. Uses professional concepts to contribute to the development of product or process principles and to achieve objectives in creative and effective ways. In the reagent operations organization the core focus includes knowledge/experience working in a GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) environment, new product transfer support, and validation experience including product and process. Reagent operations is responsible for the production, support and transfer of the reagents used on our automated platforms. Responsibilities Conceives, plans, designs and conducts advanced independent research in compound, assay, process, product or method development to support on-going production, continuous improvements and new product transfer. Receives general direction and exercises considerable discretion as to work details. Contributes to the definition and timely achievement of overall project goals. Participates or leads in efforts to define new components, products or processes. Identifies and solves technical challenges. Identifies and implements improvements to work processes. Creates potentially patentable components for systems, reagents or processes. Designs, plans and executes project related tasks. Designs and executes experiments to test hypothesis related to project outcomes. Applies advanced scientific knowledge to projects; determines priorities for experiments. Independently designs and executes experiments. Utilizes DOE as appropriate. Assures experimental quality through sound, independent, experimental design. Participates or leads cross functional technical teams such as a failure investigation or core team. Establishes interfaces across other organizational groups. Provides technical direction and feedback to others. Teaches others and troubleshoots problems. Participates in project planning, process updates and contributes to experimental design. Prepares and delivers presentations of project results to others; presents data to larger and more diverse audiences. Monitors work to ensure quality, and continuously promote Quality First Time. Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Science REQUIRED and 10 year of related experience OR Master's Degree in Science plus 5 years of related experience OR Ph.D. in Science and 2 years of experience If degree is in a non-scientific field, Executive Committee approval is required. Knowledge, Skill or Ability Demonstrates success in technical proficiency, scientific creativity, collaboration with others and independent thought. Expert knowledge of scientific principles and concepts. Applies advanced technical writing skills to produce reports and documents; writes independently; evaluates the writing of others.
