The Position The employee also participates in quality control and quality assurance activities and assists with writing operating procedures and trains and mentors new team members as assigned. Responsibilities • Performs grossing clinical samples without direct supervision of a pathologist • Performs tissue processing, cell block preparation, embedding, microtomy and slide staining • Performs complex technologies as required • Screens tissue, prepares control tissue, and performs instrument and equipment validation • Performs antibody titers, dilutions and reagent lot verification staining • Performs quality control and quality assurance activities and troubleshooting of pre-analytic and analytic testing activities. • Assists in writing operating procedures; training of new members as assigned. • Instrument and equipment maintenance and accessioning as assigned. • Performs other duties as assigned. • Other duties as assigned by management. Education Level Associate's Degree in laboratory science, medical laboratory technology, or major in Histology HT or HTL (ASCP) certification Required Qualifications: 7 years of experience as a histotechnician or histotechnologist working in a lab where Histotechniques are being used Preferred Qualifications: QIHC certification or IHC experience performing all aspects of IHC and routine histological techniques Management/ supervisor course or experience as a team leader/ supervisor Knowledge, Skill or Ability Knowledge of pre-analytical, analytical and post-analytical efforts in pathology and histology. Knowledge of QC/QA documentation practices to meet compliance standards for CAP and clinical studies. Skilled in grossing clinical biopsy samples, processing, embedding, microtomy, H&E staining and • coverslipping of the same. Ability to understand and troubleshoot histotechniques, lend technical support and insights for histology • practices to CDx and clients. Ability to demonstrate extensive knowledge of IHC theory and troubleshooting.
