Job Description The Audience Development and Analytics department drives strategic and operational decisions for The Washington Post. This highly visible team applies analytics and research to support strategic initiatives and day-to-day operational support company-wide and is currently seeking a Senior Data Analyst. As our Senior Data Analyst you’ll report to the Director of Analytics and work in close collaboration with the newsroom, marketing, product, engineering, advertising and finance departments on a diverse range of projects that have a critical and strategic impact on all aspects of the company. You will regularly interact with various stakeholders in these departments, understand needs, build reports, conduct data analysis, and make actionable recommendations. You will love solving open-ended problems by taking mountains of data, transforming it into meaningful analysis aimed towards identifying solutions and opportunities. You are happiest in a role where you can solve problems where business, math, technology, and practical intuition converge. Motivation You want to help shape strategy for different products and teams by turning ambiguous questions into actionable answers. You enjoy the balance of both technical data-wrangling (writing queries, code) and engaging presentations (summarizing takeaways, visualizing data). You have a knack for synthesizing different aspects of the business (finance, advertising, engineering, content) to make the more relevant recommendations to various teams You find value in educating coworkers about different metrics, KPIs, and analytics tools You think about the full picture of data, from tracking requirements to efficient processing to digestible reporting. Responsibilities You work with stakeholders across departments to understand KPIs and come up with a measurement plan You work with Engineering, Product and Marketing teams to ensure metrics are appropriately defined, implemented, and tested across our digital assets You will design, build, and maintain key periodic reports, dashboards and analyses utilizing Hadoop, Web Analytics tools (Google Analytics), R, Python, Tableau and other reporting and visualization tools You will develop best practices and approaches to answer ad hoc questions on online user behavior, customer journeys, engagement, conversion data and multi-channel attribution You will assist various testing and optimization efforts by performing in-depth and ad-hoc analysis of information from multiple data sources (web analytics data, marketing data, newsletter data, subscription data, alternate platforms as well as external data) to assist data informed decision making at all levels You will prepare and present reports, analysis and presentations to various stakeholders including executives Requirements Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree, particuarly in computer science, engineering, mathematics, or a related technical discipline 3 years of data analytics experience, with a strong preference for experience in web analytics A strong quantitative, creative, and problem-solving mindset Ability to multitask, prioritize projects, and meet deadlines. Strong analytical and communication skills. Ability to work successfully in a team environment, as well as independently and exercise sound professional judgement Preferred Qualifications Expertise in SQL. Experience with MySQL, PostgreSQL, Redshift on cloud is a plus Expertise in R, Python data analysis packages to manipulate data and draw insights from large data sets Expertise in Big Data tools and distributed data/computing tools like Hadoop (or other big-data solutions), Map/Reduce, S3, Hive, Spark etc. Expertise in Tableau, R Shiny, D3 or other visualization/ reporting tools Expertise with enterprise Web Analytics systems (Google Analytics, Adobe Analytics, Google Tag Manager) and media/ publishing industry experience is preferred When you join The Post When you join TWP, you are joining a mission to connect, inform, and enlighten those around the globe with the highest caliber, most trustworthy news and information.
