Working Arrangement Hybrid Job Description At John Hancock, data engineers within Advanced Analytics are integral in teams comprised of data scientists, machine learning engineers, platform engineers, and domain experts to create analytical models and data architectures to tackle the most pressing business problems. The Opportunity The Data Engineer has accountability as a data domain subject matter expert, building automated capabilities and data products to accelerate advanced analytics. You will be responsible for designing and building business interpretable and performant analytics solutions. You will build systematic, modular, and scalable, self-service capabilities to continuously increase the capacity of the advanced analytics team. The Data Engineer leverages and shares their deep knowledge of, and experience with, a wide variety of data analytics and technology topics. Also, you will help others to improve their knowledge and understanding of the use of data and technology. Responsibilities Responsible for understanding the systems, data environments, and production pipelines Research, explore, and experiment with new data design ideas and related technologies Collaborate with internal/external data experts Research & leverage user documentation to gain a comprehensive understanding of the data domain Work with data scientists to transform business requests into value-add data products and capabilities Work closely with business teams and data scientists to collaboratively assess, understand, improve, and deliver rich data content for analysis. Translates business needs into data architecture solution Assist in the development the conceptual/logical data models or semantic layers with appropriate business contexts Automate, re-build, and re-imagine data processes to increase efficiencies in business processes Design and implement data architectures in development and production environments Help business people better understand the use of data and automation, drawing on a thorough understanding of and experience with technologies for intelligent automation, data modeling, data management, etc. Identify and guide natural data champions in the business to enhance the profitable use of data Learn salient business concepts from data champions and enable them to creatively use data technologies What motivates you? What we are looking for University degree in quantitative based field (e.g. Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science and Engineering, Economics) Advanced experience with relational databases, SQL query and advanced procedure authoring Experience in Python, R, Julia, MATLAB Advanced Experience in automating data pipelines and working with data transformation tools Advanced experience working with internal business contacts to develop analytical reports. Excellent troubleshooting skills. Experience performing root cause analysis on internal and external data and processes to answer specific business questions and find opportunities for improvement Strong analytic skills related to working with unstructured and structured datasets Experience providing data analysis to support management decisions Good verbal and written communication; effectively articulates technical vision, possibilities, and outcomes Experiments with emerging technologies to understand how they will affect what comes next Well versed in software development methodologies, testing, release management, and maintenance Takes pride in optimizing and cleaning code, and leaves a program in a better shape than found Nice to Haves: Experience with analytics tools and visualization tools What can we offer you? Primary Location Boston, Massachusetts Salary range is expected to be between $83,440.00 USD - $154,960.00 USD If you are applying for this role outside of the primary location, please contact recruitment@manulife.com for the salary range for your location. The actual salary will vary depending on local market conditions, geography and relevant job-related factors such as knowledge, skills, qualifications, experience, and education/training. Employees also have the opportunity to participate in incentive programs and earn incentive compensation tied to business and individual performance.
