Department: 38306 Advocate Sleep Centers - Sleep Center: Tinley Park West Status: Part time Benefits Eligible: No Hours Per Week: 0 Schedule Details/Additional Information: Major Responsibilities: Polysomnographic Procedures 8)Creates an image and physical environment that demonstrates excellence. Practices proper care and maintenance of equipment and supplies. Able to troubleshoot all equipment problems and notifies appropriate personnel of problems encountered. Adheres to all departmental, hospital and corporate policies and procedures. 9)Provide accurate staging and scoring applying current American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) guidelines. Generate accurate reports tabulating sleep/wake and clinical event data. 10)Perform positive airway pressure (PAP) mask fittings utilizing sizing gauges. Performs CPAP Acclimations in accordance with departmental standards and policies using densensitization techniques as needed. 6)Follow "lights on" procedure to verify integrity of collected data and complete the data collection process (repeats the physiological and instruments calibrations and instructs the patient on completing the questionnaires, etc.) 1)Follow procedural protocols (such as Multiple Sleep Latency Test (MSLT), Maintenance of Wakefulness Test (MWT), parasomnia studies, PAP titrations, ASV titrations, oxygen titrations, and mandibular advancement titrations) to ensure collection of appropriate data. 2)Explain pre-testing, testing, and post-testing procedures to the patient. Prepare and calibrate equipment required for testing to determine proper functioning and make adjustments if necessary. Apply electrodes using 10/20 measurement system and sensors according to published standards. Perform appropriate physiological calibrations to ensure proper signals and make documented adjustments if necessary. Follow "lights out" procedures to establish and document baseline values (such as body position, oxyhemoglobin saturation, respiratory and heart rates, etc.). 3)Perform polysomnographic data acquisition while monitoring study tracing quality to ensure signals are artifact free and make documented adjustments if necessary. 4)Document routine observations including sleep stages, clinical events, relevant respiratory, neurologic, behavioral, and cardiac events as well as changes in procedure in order to facilitate scoring and interpretation of polysomnographic results. 5)Implement appropriate interventions (including actions necessary for patient safety and therapeutic interventions such as continuous, bilevel, ASV, and oxygen administration, etc..) following departmental protocols. 7)Demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to recognize and provide age specific care in the treatment, assessment, and education of neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients as needed. This includes physical/mental limitations, current emotional/physiological status regarding the testing procedure, pertinent medical/social history) and to determine final testing parameters/procedures in conjunction with the ordering physician, medical director and Sleep Center protocols. Demonstrates the use of appropriate psychosocial interventions based on age and cognitive status. Communication 1)Communicates effectively with physicians, hospital associates, supervisor and patients to assure quality patient care and positive coworker relations. 2)Demonstrates a tolerance for new ideas from others. 3)Owns and resolves every customer problem or issue to the best of ability, referring unresolved issues to the proper source. 4)Consistently exhibits Behaviors of Excellence. Maintenance and Development of Skills 1)Accepts personal accountability for continued skills development and demonstrates a commitment to learning. Must maintain 10 CEUs/year. Must maintain credentials and CPR certification. Departmental Activities and Goals 1)Understands CQI principles and works with other team members (associates) to improve departmental processes. 3)Attends CQI and other team oriented in-services and workshops sponsored by the organization and/or hospital. 2)Actively participates in team functions and meetings within the department. Education/Experience Required: Graduate of a two year AMA approved program for Respiratory Care OR graduation from an ASET accredited Neurophysiology program OR completed in-house training program or equivalent. Completion of qualified sleep disorders training program or the equivalent. OR be currently enrolled in a CAAHEP approved sleep program. Earn 10.0 continuing education credits annually Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required: Skilled in digital and analog Polysomnography. Provides technical interpretations for all procedures performed. Functions as a team member. Effective communication skills. Observational skills convey patient behavior based on clinical knowledge. CPR Certification RPSGT, RST, or RRT-SDS registry eligible - must become registered within 90 days OR become registered within 90 days from eligibility date when graduating from a CAAHEP approved sleep program. Physicial Requirements and Working Conditions: Candidates must be willing to attend all mandatory educational activities and associate meetings which may not be during regularly scheduled shift. This position can recognize needs and behaviors of the following age groups: Neonatal (as required), Pediatrics, Adolescents, Adults, and Geriatrics. Evidence of this can be shown by recognizing levels of development and modifying approach and exhibiting communication skills necessary to interpret age specific responses. Must be able to function under stressful, fast paced conditions, communicate in a professional, knowledgeable, respectful manner with superior, peers and external customers and foster a team building environment when performing job functions. Must always exhibit Behaviors of Excellence. May be required to work odd hours to adjust to patient schedules. Must be able to perform physical tasks, such as bending, lifting, pushing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling and be able to respond quickly to emergencies. Must be able to regularly lift 25 pounds and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds. May be exposed to chemical vapors (acetone, Saniwipes). If position has direct patient care or direct patient contact the following lifting requirement supersedes any previous lifting requirement effective 06/01/2015. Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance. For patient lifts of over 35 pounds, or when patient is unable to assist with the lift, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other associate, when available.
