Company Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City The Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City (FRBKC) is seeking a solution architect to join the Disbursement Services Modernization Initiative (DSMI). DSMI is an initiative to implement a modern cloud-based payments platform for the United States Treasury. The modern platform will provide numerous Treasury business capabilities supporting domestic payments, international payments, and payments to government agency grant recipients. The DSMI team supports the development of cloud-based services that will comprise the modernized, resilient Treasury payments platform. This payments platform will be composed of a wide-range of technologies like Java, Angular, Python, Docker, Kubernetes, and Blockchain plus Amazon Web Services (AWS) technologies like S3, API Gateway, EMR, Kinesis, Lambda, EKS, SQS, Aurora, DynamoDB, and many more. The successful applicant will join our group of architects responsible for architecting the payments platform and working collaboratively with teams of engineers to build cloud services in a scaled-agile team setting. KEY ACTIVITIES Architects and designs cloud-native technical architectures for solutions (products, services, etc.) by following applicable frameworks, patterns, and standards and ensuring that a shared technical and architectural vision is realized. Executes and implements portfolio and solution strategies, including hands-on coding and resolving operational issues. Reviews detailed designs and collaborates with the delivery team for best solutions. Drives decisions by following applicable frameworks, patterns, and standards and ensuring that a shared technical and architectural vision is realized. Collaborates with other architects on business drivers and enterprise strategy to determine the appropriate technical options to meet needs and effectively drive appropriate design tradeoffs and cost/benefit. Establishes and fosters strong relationships with customers, service providers, vendor partners, and technical peers, with special attention to business stakeholders, to ensure understanding of business drivers and strategy. Advises on emerging technologies and modern architecture. QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor’s degree specializing in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics), or a closely related field, from an accredited college or university, or equivalent combination of directly related education and/or experience. Typically requires at least six to 15 years of relevant and progressive information technology experience directly related to architecture, design, and development of software solutions, ranging in complexity from department-class to enterprise-class. New team members will be hired into the solution architect job family according to skills and experience. Basic to advanced understanding of architectural characteristics and uses them to drive design. Basic to advanced understanding of architectural tradeoffs and uses them to suggest patterns based on architectural characteristics. Basic to advanced understanding of technology tradeoffs and the business implications of those tradeoffs. At a minimum, successful applicants should possess an advanced understanding of Industry software development methodologies, standards and architecture frameworks. Expertise in automated testing and the use of modern CI/CD pipelines using DevOps tooling (e.g. Git, Bitbucket, Bamboo, GitLab, Maven, Nexus, Fortify, Sonar, etc.) is required. Experience in architecting and implementing cloud-native microservices in AWS cloud environments is strongly preferred. Proficiency in Agile software development principles is required. Demonstrated ability to adapt and quickly learn new technologies (e.g. cloud services, containers, etc…). Strong oral and written communication skills. Able to explain complex technical information to technical and non-technical staff in a clear and concise manner. Positively influences/reconciles opposing ideas. Should be able to develop presentations and technical writings that deliver complex ideas to audiences at all levels such as Product Manager, Business Owner, Business Leader, etc. in a persuasive and convincing manner. Continuously improves processes and contributes to innovation. Participates in establishing and achieving team goals. Proactively resolves issues and roadblocks. Aligns with customer needs and seeks to understand the business in order to pursue business outcomes. Adept at solving problems and able to analyze details while concurrently adopting a big picture view, with an inclination for simple, re-usable solutions. Strong interpersonal skills. Develops strong partnerships and relationships with team members, remaining positive to promote a collaborative and team environment.
