Job Details: Job Summary: Oversees fabrication of precision parts and components including set up and operation three or more groupings of metal fabricating machines such as drill presses, lathes, milling machines, working from complex blueprints, sketches, work orders and verbal instructions. This position typically works under general supervision and direction. Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities: Obtains projects and reviews complex blueprints, sketches, work orders, parts lists, change notices and verbal instructions to determine dimensions/ tolerances of piece to be machined, sequence of operations, and tools, materials and machines as required. Assigns tasks to lower level machinist and machinist personnel. Assists lower level machinist personnel. Reviews engineering prototype design and recommends changes to reduce cost. Continuous improvement of manufacturing processes. Makes special tools and fixtures as required. Plans layout and set up and operation of three or more groupings of metal fabricating machines such as: lathes, milling machines, drill presses and grinders. Makes complex shop calculations using handbook formulas. Performs measurements using micrometers, dial indicators, calipers, gauges and other precision measuring instruments. Uses portable power tools, basic hand tools, precision-measuring devices, holding fixtures and vises. Verifies quality of work and performs rework/modifications as necessary. Minimum Job Requirements: Two year trade school, or equivalent, OR five years experience in setting up and operating three or more groupings of metal fabricating machines such as drill presses, lathes and milling machines- Computer Numerically Controlled (CNC) and conventional. Ability to work from complex blueprints, diagrams, parts lists, change notices and work orders. Proficient in the use of basic hand tools and precision measuring devices. Must know shop math, trigonometry and geometry. Ability to stand for long periods of time. Ability to lift 50lbs. Ability to follow written and verbal directions, prioritize work, complete multiple tasks, work under deadlines, concentrate and apply craft skills.
