Our Animal Services division is currently looking for experienced and self-motivated team players to fill two (2) part-time (0.6 FTE) and two (2) full-time (1.0 FTE) Animal Technician 1 positions at its shelter in Troutdale, Oregon. Do you consider yourself both an animal person and a people person? As an Animal Technician 1, you take pride in cleaning and disinfecting animal kennel areas. You know how critical it is to follow strict animal health standards of care, and you pride yourself on how well you complete this important work while maintaining a low stress environment for the animals. Animal Services is transforming its operations and approach to an equitable service model that focuses on under-resourced communities and removing barriers to pet adoptions or other placements. As part of this transformation, an Animal Technician 1 must be open to understanding culturally responsive practices and implementing changes in our operations that decrease the overall length of animal stays. In this role, you will: Clean and feed animals according to the type and the condition of the animal. Clean and disinfect public areas and animal quarters (inside and outside), such as kennels, cages, crates, runs, holding areas, baths, walls, and floors. Process intake of shelter animals, such as vaccinating, scanning, and weighing dogs and cats, and understanding warning signals in order to maintain safety. Provide daily walks for shelter dogs. Work with the public to help find and reunite lost pets with owners. Prepare and restock materials on a daily basis. We are looking for someone who: Has work experience handling animals, such as kennel work or animal welfare work. Demonstrates the ability to multitask in a fast-moving environment. Has a strong work ethic with a commitment to consistency, timeliness and follow-through. Enjoys working on a team. Demonstrated understanding of animal welfare and rescue work, including animal sheltering processes. Experience working with volunteers. Knowledge of animal behavior and health, and safe animal handling techniques. Experience operating computers and office equipment, and performing related clerical duties.
