Lilly Manufacturing & Quality (M&Q) has designed and delivered an IoT/Edge Messaging platform to implement solutions geared toward data capture and integration, currently with a focus on connecting instruments. Lilly is currently scaling up its M&Q edge platform globally and the Data Engineer – IoT/Edge is a key role to expand use of the platform to continue to deliver business value. The Data Engineer – IoT/Edge is a global role, supporting all Lilly Manufacturing sites. The primary focus of the role will be to support and expand use of the M&Q platform by engineering solutions to solve challenges around data availability, data integrity, and data contextualization. Lilly has a global library of connectivity modules (containers) that have been developed to enable integration of previously standalone benchtop instruments with other Lilly execution systems (LES, MES, etc.). This role will take a lead responsibility in continuing to support and expand this module library (mainly developed in Python). This position will also support a variety of edge/IoT/Digital Twin projects as they continue to scale up over the coming years. This role is a mid-level engineering role which requires a Bachelor of Science Degree in engineering or a related science field, preferably in Computer Science, Chemical, Mechanical, Industrial, or Electrical Engineering, or related science field. The position requires high learning agility, an interest and/or background in IoT/Edge computing and a strong computer science / programming skillset. There is an expectation of travel to other Lilly international locations, training, and conferences, generally not exceeding 10%. Digital Manufacturing Engineering (DME) is part of the Lilly Corporate Engineering Tech Center (ETC). The ETC is a technical resource for training, standards, project implementation, and the center of engineering excellence for the corporation, providing deeply technical resources to solve the most intractable technical problems in manufacturing. Responsibilities: Work safely and continually look for improvements to both people and equipment safety. Lead development and validation efforts for the global device connectivity library of code modules (containers) leveraged for instrument connectivity and system integration. Technical leadership for positioning and use of the M&Q IoT/Edge platform Partner with Lilly MQ IDS (IT) organization to drive enhancements for the M&Q IoT/Edge platform to improve resiliency and ease of support. Support M&Q Digital Plant and Digital Twin initiatives for the engineering function Enable sites to leverage standardized data solutions to drive continuous improvement, performance optimizations, data integrity, and quality Basic Requirements: Bachelor of Science Degree or higher in engineering or a related science field. Experience with industrial IoT/Edge platforms and solutions 3 years of experience Additional Preferences: Strong programming / computer science skillset Knowledge of interfacing with industrial instruments (pH meters, weigh-scales, etc.) Experience with developing container-based applications using python Experience working with Azure IoT or other edge platforms and MQTT communication JavaScript development experience Ability to work well with different cultures Experience in pharma or GMP industry and familiarity with data integrity principles Experience working with validated systems Additional Information: Monday through Friday Day Shift of 7:30am-4:30pm with some allowance for flex time.
