Optician/Optical Assistant

Vivid Eye Care at Meadows Mile is looking for a warm, professional team member who loves to provide a "wow" patient experience. As we continue to expand, we are looking for an optician or optical assistant to help patients see a lifetime of beauty through healthy eyes.

We are hiring a full-time (preferred) or part-time position for Optician/Optical Assistant at Meadows Mile (formerly Specs in the City), a second location recently acquired by Vivid Eye Care, located above Deerfoot Meadows, SE Calgary, AB.

Our first location, Vivid Eye Care at Cranston, is a multi-optometrist full-scope family practice with an emphasis on state-of-the-art eye care, fashion-forward quality eye wear, and personalized service. Vivid Eye Care at Meadows Mile, our most recent location, will follow a similar formula in patient care, in an upscale dynamic medical building setting.

We are looking to build a new team at our second location. Please note that as our clinic is open evenings and weekends, flexibility for scheduling is required.

Your Responsibilities:

1. Assist patients with frame/lens selection and provide adjustments on eye wear.
2. Educate patients on lens options, dispense eye wear.
3. Answer multi-line phone system, transfer phone calls, triage & handle emergency/priority situations in a timely & effective manner.
4. Run health insurance, take payments.
5. Assist optometrists; take medical histories, imaging, and measurements.
6. Develop and maintain relationships with customers by responding to voicemails and emails.
7. Training patients on proper contact lens insertion and removal techniques.
8. Contribute to business growth by completing administrative tasks and accomplishing related tasks as needed.
9. Future goals may include managing frame inventory, marketing, financials, etc.

Your Compensation Package:

1. Competitive hourly rate based on experience, with annual compensation reviews based on performance.

Skills & Qualifications:

1. While all eye care-related experience (RO, optometric/ophthalmic assistant, ophthalmic technician, COA, COT, COMT) would be valuable, a strong customer-service optical background is preferred.
2. Meeting sales goals, closing skills.
3. Excellent time management skills and ability to multitask.
4. Reception experience is considered an asset.
5. Intermediate skill with computer programs, such as Outlook and Microsoft Office Suite.
6. Ability to learn new software (EMR programs), though experience with Visual Eyes software would be ideal.
7. Approachable & communicative; must be able to easily engage with customers and patients.
8. Strong verbal & written communication skills.
