UAPS (University of Alberta Protective Services) is one of five operational units reporting to the portfolio of Associate Vice President, Asset Management & Operations Services, within Facilities & Operations. The mission of UAPS is to provide a positive university environment for students, staff, faculty, and visitors by preventing, intervening, and responding to risks and emerging issues around safety and security.

Position

Reporting to the Threat Assessment Program and Investigations Manager, the Security Analyst plays a crucial role in intelligence gathering and analysis focusing on the mitigation of risk, regarding organizational security matters of concern. The Security Analyst gathers information from a variety of sources and disseminates intelligence-related information within UAPS and to various external stakeholders making recommendations and reporting on key incident statistics, tracking key performance indicators, and data on different emerging issues of concern, which may affect resource planning and deployment, officer safety, and campus safety and security measures.

Qualifications

• Grade 12 high school diploma by Alberta standards
• Law Enforcement/Security Diploma
• Hold the designation of Community Peace Officer Level 1
• Extensive major case management experience where duties were specifically dedicated to the investigation of key incidents such as assault, break and enter, etc.
• Experience understanding patterns and data collection management
• Extensive experience in special event security planning
• Proven organizational and case management skills; including the prioritization of multiple files and changing dynamics, to ensure the appropriate priorities and timelines are met
• Comprehensive knowledge of the various areas within the University community, its policies and procedures, (Code of Student Behavior, UAPPOL, FOIPP, etc.)
• Ability to analyze, interpret, and apply provincial and federal legislation, and various policies, legal principles, and the laws of natural justice
• Superior written and oral communication skills; experience with directing and managing complex, ongoing organizational security concerns
• Knowledge of crime trends and analysis
