The Portfolio

Reporting to the Environmental Services Supervisor, Environmental Services Student Labourer
supports other staff in maintaining and monitoring the drinking water distribution system and
wastewater collection system within the . This involves performing various tasks
related to maintenance, construction, monitoring and rehabilitation of the water distribution system
and wastewater collection system, to provide compliance with the Provincial Safe Drinking Water
Act, 2002 Legislation and Regulations, Town By-laws, and standards, as well as performing
general operator functions within the Corporation as required.

The Candidate

As a candidate for this position, you are currently enrolled in or have recently completed
secondary school. You possess a valid and unrestricted Class “G” or “G2” driver's license and
have some recent related maintenance experience.

Working for the

This is a seasonal position working up to 40 hours per week. The offers
candidates for this position an hourly wage of $20.65 per hour (2024 rate).

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Environmental Services Operations (95%)

1.1 Supports staff on a variety of tasks for “sanitary sewer” operation, repair and
maintenance, which may include, but is not limited to:

a) Restoration of property following repairs.
b) Advising homeowners on course of repair.
c) Sewer flushing, manhole repairing, ladder replacement and frame

adjustments.
d) Sewer/lateral blockage removals.
e) Inspection and monitoring of overflows.
f) Perform “locates” which may include locating main sewers and home

laterals to ensure damages do not occur when third parties are digging
within a certain area.

1.2 Supports staff on a variety of tasks for “drinking water system” operation, repair,
monitoring, and maintenance, in accordance with Regulation 170/03, which
includes but is not limited to:

a) New water services, new and replacement water meters, wet tapping into
a charged system.

b) Hydrant and valve maintenance.
c) Maintenance of the water filling station.
d) Operating in accordance with the Safe Drinking Water Act, 2002,

Regulation 170/03 and 128/04 and the Town’s Water Distribution
Guidelines.

e) Chemical testing and microbiological sample taking.
f) Open and close valves and flush hydrants on the Town’s system
g) Periodically carry out meter reading for billing purposes.


2. Other (5%)


2.1 Complies with regulations including the Occupational Health and Safety Act and

ensures all other Town policies, procedures and by-laws are adhered to in
conjunction with roads operations.

2.2 Assists Roads Division and other Departments works as required.
2.3 Other related duties, as assigned.


The successful candidate will possess the following:

Education
Currently enrolled in or completed a Secondary School Diploma.

License, Registration and Training
Valid and unrestricted Class “G” or “G2” Drivers’ License with a clean driving record.


Experience
Some recent related maintenance related experience.


Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Good organizational and time management skills.
Able to work independently and as a team.
Knowledge in operating maintenance tools and equipment.
Good written and verbal communication skills.
Able to perform manual labour duties for the duration of the shift.
High degree of analytical skills in assessing and determining job and task requirements.
Able to prioritize and work with anticipated deadlines.
Working knowledge of the Occupational Health & Safety Act and the Safe Drinking Water

Act.

A combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.
