JOB DESCRIPTION
POSITION: Lead Challenge Course Facilitator DIVISION: Recreation Services
DEPARTMENT: Community Services
PRIMARY FUNCTION:
To plan, implement and facilitate group and individual activities in addition to overseeing Challenge Course Facilitators on the Challenge Course (high ropes, zipline, vertical playground, climbing wall, and low ropes)

WORKING PROCEDURES:
Supervise and work with other team members in developing educational and experiential activities for all elements of the Challenge Course.
Provide ongoing program support to the Recreation Services Division;
Conduct pre and post use inspection of equipment and elements;
Conduct aerial inspections of equipment and elements;
Greet all visitors professionally and ensure they are harnessed, wearing appropriate clothing and understand the rules of the course;
Promote safety awareness by orienting groups to proper safe use and procedures in activities and challenge course use;
Plan, develop and manage quality and progressive challenge course programs to meet group and individual goals;
Write program outlines and lesson plans that allow for progression of activities and accomplish specific program goals;
Demonstrate skills with cooperative group games, low and high challenge course
Safely and effectively execute group programming including planning, facilitating and debriefing activities;
Teach and monitor the proper use of equipment and enforce all operational procedures;
Direct and assist with the daily setup, take down and equipment check and storage of all equipment and elements on the course;
Perform rescues as necessary and complete applicable documentation and reporting;
Immediately report any damage or deficiencies in program equipment, accidents or hazardous conditions on the course, as soon as possible to the Recreation Services Supervisor or designate;
Demonstrates a high level of customer service and provides this service on the front-line of operation and does so in an efficient, courteous and respectful manner;
Participate in the Town’s Health and Safety Program and follow safety practices in work methods and procedures; observes and complies with all relevant Health & Safety regulations.
Submit request for replacement of equipment and supplies as needed;
Perform minor equipment maintenance as directed;
Other duties as assigned.

SKILL/KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS:
Previous experience working in on a high ropes course, zipline, rock wall or similar environment or related setting is considered an asset;
Previous experience instructing programs or coaching is considered an asset;
Ability to work comfortably with heights and to climb in an outdoor environment in hot summer temperatures and inclement weather;
Confident in teaching/leading large groups in a classroom/camp setting;
Excellent communication skills, both oral and written;
Have a good understanding of group process, group stages and group facilitation skills;
Working knowledge, understanding and compliance with applicable health and safety legislation and safe work practices;
Ability to respond effectively in an emergency;
Possess excellent organizational, leadership and facilitating skills;
Good manual and physical dexterity skills;
Ability to work independently without close supervision and follow detailed instructions;
Effective conflict resolution, problem solving and critical thinking skills;
Excellent customer service skills to deal effectively with the general public, participants, parents or guardians.
Must be available to work flexible hours including daytime, evenings, weekends and holidays;
Previous supervisory experience and experience facilitating team building initiatives are considered assets;
Possess a current Level 2 Ropes Course Certification or equivalent skills prior ot he commencement of the season;
Possess a current Standard First Aid and C.P.R. Level C Certificate prior to commencement of the season;
Must provide a current (within the year) Vulnerable Sector Police Screen to verify suitability for employment;
