Hourly Rate: $20.96 - $28.47 ($40,873.95 - $51,518.55)
Job Summary:
OPiH is looking for a full-time physiotherapy assistant to join its team of PT, PTAs and OT. Under the administrative management of Ontario Partners in Health (OPiH) and located at Elizabeth Bruyère Residence , the PTA will assist the clinicians and ensure the smooth operation of the physiotherapy program through clinical, administrative & clerical activities.
Essential Responsibilities:
Provide physiotherapy services under the direction and supervision of a Registered Physiotherapist;
PTA role:
Carries out the designated components of interventions of the rehabilitative treatment plans;
Leads one on one treatment or group activities as directed by the Physiotherapist;
Provides mobility training such as using gait aids; exercise programs for range of motion, strength/endurance, balance, coordination, and tone management;
Provides resident/client handling and positioning techniques to facilitate safe transfers/mobility to optimize and maintain function;
Orient the resident/client to the treatment area and prepares therapy rooms and assemble treatment equipment and supplies.
Shows residents/clients how to use mobility aids, demonstrate and work through exercises with patients;
Follows the care plan set out by the Physiotherapist, engages the resident/client in treatment on a one-to-one basis or group format as appropriate;
Monitors resident/client responses and status during the application of assigned, specific physiotherapy intervention and ability to suspend intervention if resident/client has an adverse reaction or is at risk, to consult Physiotherapist;
Ensures cleanliness and tidiness of equipment and areas where equipment is stored and kept;
Assists in maintaining proper inventory levels & preventative maintenance of clinic equipment, including placing orders for equipment and supplies;
Coordinates and collaborates with other health professionals, families and vendors keeping a resident/family-centred approach;
Completes monthly statistics as required;
Performs other related duties as required.
Essential Qualifications:
Completion of a Physiotherapy Assistant Program from an accredited institution, a degree in Human Kinetics or a combination of equivalent training and experience;
Minimum of six (6) months clinical experience; working in LTC setting and with seniors preferred;
Understanding of the principles of rehabilitation;
Up-to date knowledge of rehabilitation techniques and exercise modalities. Excellent recreation skills and modalities.
Ability to recognize sudden changes in health status requiring urgent and/or emergent intervention;
Proven problem-solving abilities and demonstrated sound judgment;
Excellent communication skills both verbally and in writing;
Excellent interpersonal and team skills;
A commitment to best practices, quality and resident centered care;
Demonstrated intermediate to superior level computer skills, which include but are not limited to the knowledge of MS Office, MS Excel, and MS Outlook;
Fluency in spoken and written English and French.
