The role of a punch press operator is a full-time position where the successful applicant will work under the direct supervision of the Foreman and Sheet Metal Team Lead. The punch press operator will assist in the manufacturing of elevator interior components and accessories as well as cutting various materials (satin coat CRS, Aluminum, and some stainless steel) based on provided specifications using a punch press. Assisting in various roles in other departments on the shop floor from time to time may be required during pression project periods.
Job specifications:
- Minimum 2 years of experience setting up tooling and maintenance is essential as well as operations of the machinery, programming can be taught for the most part, and operating a CNC Punch Press machine specifically.
- Would be great to have experience with any of the AMADA’s, we are currently looking for someone to work with our AMADA VIPROS KING II-358 CNC machine.
- Company is using a program called G-Puncher (latest version); would be nice to have this specific experience, however G or M coding is a good base as well and can work with that individual to work on this program to bring them up to speed with the programming.
- We are also looking other individuals that could be trained on our AMADA FO-3015NT Laser CNC machine which includes setting up, programming and executing programs would be beneficial; we also have 3 brake press machines on the shop floor that would be great to cross train.
- Can use various measuring tools to take precise measurements and form materials accurately.
- Intermediate knowledge of hand and power tools and general manufacturing processes.
- Understanding of CAD Drawings, reading schematics and wiring.
Direction received:
- Receives direction from the foreman, assistant foreman, and sheet metal team lead to prioritize work and ensure deadlines are met.
- Self-starter, hardworking and takes initiative.
Responsibilities/Accountability:
- Regular inspections and general maintenance of CNC machine to ensure quality. This includes ensuring tool and dies are observed for change overs and/or sharpen them as required during general maintenance.
- Form various materials (stainless steel, aluminium, etc.) based on provided specifications using a punch press.
- Must always adhere to safe work practices and procedures as well as all other applicable health and safety laws and regulations.
- Reading drawings and production sheets to ensure products are manufactured accurately and to specifications.
- Time management skills are essential to ensure that material is ready for scheduled work.
- Accurate maintenance of production records may be required.
- Must handle work with finesse and precision.
- Minimizing waste of materials.
Inside/outside relationships:
- Frequent contact with Foreman, assistant foreman, team lead, and other warehouse employees.
Position conditions:
- Standing and walking, occasional medium to heavy lifting and bending.
- Some evening and weekend work may be asked.
- Works in dusty/noisy environments at times.
- Work area can be hot and humid during summer season, cold during winter.
- Must wear appropriate PPE supplied by company, however will need to bring in your own protective footwear (steel toed shoe/boot) when you start.
- Heavy lifting and manual material handling required.
- Other duties as assigned by management.
