Position Summary:

Reporting to the Manager, Security Operations and Response this position is responsible for dispatching and coordinating security response by monitoring, evaluating and transmitting information to responding agencies; acting as a central communications point, assisting in the overall coordination of all security related events, identified by the Specialist, and initiated through the CAD logging system; maintaining airport security by monitoring airport access control computer systems; observing and recording the responder activities through the use of the GTAA camera system.


Key Accountabilities:

  • Responsible for monitoring access control systems, assessing alarms and activities and dispatching resources as required
  • Responsible for monitoring camera systems in support of incidents, alarms, and general surveillance
  • Central communication point for all security incidents at TPIA (Toronto Pearson International Airport)
  • Report and coordinate day of maintenance of all security related systems (hardware and software)
  • Coordinate day of access activities for special events, construction, urgent maintenance, etc.
  • Monitor and assist in the coordination of operations within the terminal and airside such as, but not limited to, swing operations, maintenance shutdowns, PSL (Primary Security Line) displacements, construction, OSS (One Stop Security) operations, baggage operations
  • Assist employees with RAIC (Restricted Area Identification Card)/keycard issues
  • Assess reported unattended items and dispatch of appropriate resources
  • Security system SME (Subject Matter Expert) assisting internal departments and external agencies by providing direction for security related matters

This is a unionized position with an hourly wage of $43.33, based on a 37.5 hour work week. If you are the selected candidate, you must be available to commence the duties of the position once a selection decision has been made. As part of the competitive process, you will be required to complete a practical test.


Qualifications:

  • Must possess a Post-secondary school Diploma or Degree
  • Applicants with a combination of education and/or certification or experience in the provision of Security Services or Airport Operations may also be considered
  • Possess 3 years’ experience in an airport or security operations or in a similar security environment such as a transit facility, large public institution or infrastructure facility
  • Call center or dispatching experience will be considered an asset
  • Possess strong computer and computer keyboarding skills, accurate data entry with an ability to obtain a minimum keyboarding speed of 36 words per minute
  • Ability to obtain and retain Transportation Security Clearance

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • The successful incumbent will have a strong knowledge of Emergency Response procedures
  • Must possess excellent interpersonal skills and oral, written and listening communication skills
  • Ability to assess, prioritize simultaneous calls and make decisions based on tactical thinking
  • Must possess excellent multi-tasking skills
  • Must be proficient in the use of all MS Office software programs
  • Ability to be familiar with federal security legislation and corporate protocols
  • Ability to work under periods of stress during emergencies and high-volume workloads
  • Must have understanding of life safety monitoring systems and related interface with security systems
  • Able to develop proficiency in understanding of security incidents and response
  • Understanding of Safety and Security Programs
  • Must be familiar with Toronto Pearson and terminal layout

The GTAA is a federally regulated private sector. The Government of Canada has suspended mandatory vaccination requirement for federally regulated transportation sector workers. The GTAA continues to monitor government and health developments relating to COVID -19 and may re-introduce the Vaccination and proof of Vaccination requirements in the Policy at any time.
