JOB DESCRIPTION

Position Title: Warehouse Lead hand
Department: Warehouse
Position Reports to: Warehouse Supervisor

Position Summary:
Under the direction of the Warehouse Supervisor, the Warehouse Lead Hand will oversee and participate in the shipping, receiving, and storing of product in the Warehouse. This position is responsible to serve as the lead over one or more assigned Warehouse functions, which includes but is not limited to training, and leading the work for assigned staff in a safe and effective manner.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee and coordinate the daily activities of the warehouse team.
  • Train and mentor new employees on warehouse procedures and safety protocols.
  • Ensure efficient and accurate order fulfillment, including picking and shipping.
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure smooth workflow and timely picking and delivery of orders.
  • Respond to employee inquiries regarding job processes and concerns.
  • Conduct order selecting in all climates (dry, refrigerated, freezer).
  • Operate Warehouse equipment including: end-rider, reach truck, lift-truck, and tow-motor.
  • Ensure products stacked on pallets are prevented from damage, and maintain integrity while in transit.
  • Verify loads are accurate.
  • Arrange and build multi-customer pallets in sequence to ensure the location of products for delivery drivers is seamless and efficient.
  • Proactively identify operational issues, and assist Supervisor to identify and implement solutions.
  • Trained and efficient in other warehouse duties including: shipping, receiving, truck unloading, handling returns & customer pickups, restocking & inventory control; Sysco picking and verifying counts
  • Support upkeep of housekeeping & recycling, conduct minor maintenance.
  • Maintain safekeeping of company equipment and products, and work safely to maintain the safety of yourself and those around you.
  • Provide vacation coverage and fill in for Supervisor when required.
  • Must demonstrate an adherence to all HACCP and Food Handling practices.
  • A willingness to ensure customer satisfaction.
Required Qualifications:
  • Previous experience with various functions with a warehouse environment, including but not limited to WHMIS, food safety, and proper lifting techniques.
  • Ability to work safely and efficiently in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines.
  • Experience operating warehouse equipment including end-rider, reach truck, lift-truck, and tow-motor.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong team player, with demonstrated abilities to interact effectively with all levels of associates.
  • Solid leadership skills, and a proven ability to encourage, coach, and motivate others in a positive manner.
  • Ability to physically lift heavy product on a consistent basis (up to 40 kg) and enjoy an active career.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of customer requirements, and/or new client set up, to meet customer expectations.
  • Flexible to work the scheduled shift, and support weekends and statutory holidays as needed.
  • Internal employees must be employed with the company in good standing for 12 months, with no disciplinary actions on file.
Unique Requirements:
  • Support the assigned work scheduled, additional shifts, weekends, and statutory holidays
  • Work in a cold environment for various periods of time.
  • Meet the physical demands of the position, lifting up to 40kg on a frequent basis.
