Job Summary
We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Medical Office Assistant to join our optometry clinic. The Medical Office Assistant will play a crucial role in ensuring the efficient operation of our clinic, providing administrative support to our optometrists, and delivering exceptional service to our patients.
Responsibilities
- Perform administrative tasks specific to an optometry clinic, including scheduling appointments, managing patient records, and coordinating insurance information related to vision care
- Welcome patients warmly, check them in for their appointments, and handle co-pays and insurance verification processes
- Assist with billing and coding procedures tailored to optometry services, including managing vision care plans and submitting claims
- Maintain meticulous filing systems for patient charts, prescriptions, and other vision-related documentation
- Communicate effectively with patients, optometrists, and other clinic staff to ensure seamless patient care experiences
- Coordinate referrals to ophthalmologists or other specialists, and schedule follow-up appointments as necessary
- Provide guidance and support to new office staff members, particularly regarding optometry-specific protocols and procedures
Skills

- Strong organizational abilities to manage various administrative tasks within an optometry clinic environment
- Proficiency in administrative duties specific to optometry, including familiarity with vision insurance plans and billing procedures
- Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written, to interact professionally with patients and clinic staff
- Familiarity with optometry-related phone systems and the ability to handle patient inquiries with professionalism and empathy
- Clerical proficiency in handling vision care billing processes and maintaining accurate patient records
- Adaptability to shifting priorities and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced clinical environment
- Previous experience in training and development is advantageous
