In this role you will be responsible for supporting a variety of functions including labour relations tasks such as grievances, CBA application, interpretation and advisement, benefits administration and performance management. You will be a key contributor to fostering a positive workplace culture while ensuring compliance with company policies and the collective agreement.

  • Acts as an operational and knowledge partner in providing employee and labour relations advice, support and guidance with respect to the collective agreement, HR policies, and interpretation and compliance with legislation to assist all departments in achieving their operational goals;
  • Meet regularly with people leaders in business partnership to provide regular updates on recruitment, address performance and employee relations concerns, discuss the status of business goal achievement, and review metrics for the groups in the assigned portfolio
  • Administration and documentation of union pay structures and participates in the maintenance of HRIS data base and back up documentation including day to day benefits administration and answering any questions on calculations, benefit application, time and attendance, scheduling or application of the CBA.
  • Advises and support management and HR on the interpretation and application of collective agreements, employee contracts, and employment legislation, providing recommended courses of action.
  • Conducts as the lead any investigations into allegations of misconduct, performance deficiencies and/or workplace harassment and present findings to senior HR leadership.
  • Responsible for absence and disability management including facilitating return to work (RTW) meetings to ensure accommodations and the RTW schedule are appropriate. Monitors the RTW and provides updates to relevant parties
  • Successful completion of a Post-secondary education in Human Resources certification combined with HR experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years as HR Generalist preferably with union experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Experience with employee compensation, recruitment, employee relations, performance development, training, and employee communications in a unionized environment.
  • Experience conducting complex investigations including mediation to resolve long standing or broad issues by building a network through impact and influence.
  • Strong passion for working through a broad knowledge of information sources, people with the ability to assess problems and make decisions.
  • HR certified or are interested in pursuing your CPHR or Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) designation currently in progress.
  • In-depth understanding and involvement with Human Resources policies and procedures, and employment-related legislation (Labour Relations Act, Pay Equity Act, Human Rights Code, Occupational Health and Safety Act, Workplace Safety and Insurance Act, Employment Standards Act, etc.)
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and influencing skills
  • Sense of urgency and ability to operate in a fast-paced, high-energy environment
  • Ability to develop and maintain strong, effective internal business partner relationships
