Reporting directly to the Executive Director or her designate, Women’s NIGHT Support Counsellor provides the clients the following during the nights (night shifts 8pm-8am)
1. Support Counselling;
2. Distress Counselling;
3. Needs Assessment and Intake;
4. Safety Planning
5. Case Management and Action Planning;
6. Advocacy and Referral;
7. Child Care Intervention;
8. Community Relations and Public Education;
9. House Management and Day to Day Routines;
10. Personal and Professional Development;
11. Administrative Duties
12. Related Duties; The Women’s NIGHT Support Counsellor must be cognizant of the issues, concerns, ambivalence, and struggles that are faced by abused women and their children. She must clearly understand the cycle of violence, the extent and prevalence of violence against women, and the socioeconomic and political reasons for its existence. The Women’s Night Support Counsellor must work from a feminist perspective using trauma informed practices.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS FOR THE POSITION:
All staff is expected to hold in strictest confidence all residents’ and clients’, personal information unless specifically authorized to release such information.
It is essential that staff demonstrate flexibility, time management skills, and has the ability to react confidently as well as competently to any given situation. She must have the ability to work independently, be self-motivated, and be a cooperative team member.
She must have a thorough understanding of the job's scope and philosophy and realize the necessity for self-assessment in terms of personal and professional growth.
WSCs must possess the ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with clients, co-workers, and volunteers.
It is necessary that Women’s Support Counsellor be available to follow a rotational shift schedule as outlined by Autumn House Policy.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
A university degree in Social Work, Community Studies, Psychology, Sociology, Women's Gender Studies, or other related field, and/or equivalent combinations of training and human services experiences
Valid driver’s license
Current 1st Aid and CPR Certificate
Criminal Records Check
Vulnerable Persons Abuse Record check
Previous experience in group facilitation is an asset.
