Position Overview
This position is responsible for ensuring the City meets and maintains the legislative requirements from TSSA, ESA, Fire Code and Ministry of Labour. Assists with administration, health and safety, and risk management. Responsible for creating and implementing the Preventative and Predictive Maintenance Program.
This role also has dotted line reporting to the City’s Workplace Health and Safety Lead on any and all matters related to corporate health and safety compliance and functions. This would include ensuring full compliance with the City’s corporate health and safety programs, policies, initiatives, practices and responsibilities.
Qualifications and Experience
•Successful completion of a three (3) year Occupational Health & Safety Diploma or Degree, or suitable equivalent.
• Minimum five (5) years' experience in the Health and Safety and Technical field.
• Canadian Risk Management (CRM) and/or Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP).
• Life Safety, Annual Testing and Certification of: Knowledge of Fire Panel and Emergency Lighting, Knowledge of Fire Sprinkler System, Knowledge of Back Flow Preventers, Knowledge of Private Fire Hydrant, Infrared Red Scanner for Electrical Panels for Hot Spots, Knowledge of Roof Anchors and Knowledge of Backup Generators.
• Knowledge of Ontario Fire Code, Ontario Building Code, Architectural Blueprint Reading, Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development, Ontario Ministry of Environment, TSSA and ESA.
• Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations.
• Certified Pool Operator (CPO) Certificate, Working at Heights, WHMIS (Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System, Lock Out/ Tag Out and Ladder Safety Training.
• Ability to lead successful project teams and develop collaborative internal and external business relationships.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate technical information to non-technical audiences.
• Excellent interpersonal, organizational and analytical skills, coupled with the ability to prioritize activities to successfully meet deadlines.
• Proficient in the use of general computer software, Outlook, Microsoft Windows XP Excel and Word, including applicable project management application software/technology.
• Knowledge of and demonstrated ability in the City’s core and leadership competencies as well as relevant departmental functional competencies.
• A valid Ontario ‘G’ driver’s license, in good standing, with access to a reliable vehicle for corporate use.
• Standard office environment.
• Deals with outside agencies and performs worksite training and inspection, as required.
• Weekend supervision, as required.
• Ability to work outside normal business hours, as required.
