The City of Prince Rupert is looking for a dynamic and dedicated individual to join our team as the
Economic Development Officer. In this role, you will assist the Director of Economic Development in
planning, organizing, directing, and controlling our economic development activities. Your efforts
will help attract new businesses, encourage investment opportunities, increase job opportunities,
and identify sustainable regional growth opportunities, all while promoting and marketing Prince
Rupert as a fantastic place to live, visit, and do business.

What you’ll do…

  • Support the creation and implementation of strategies to promote economic growth and
development within the community.
  • Help gather and analyze economic data to identify trends, opportunities, and challenges.
  • Assist in efforts to attract new businesses to the area and support the retention and
expansion of existing businesses.
  • Work with local businesses, government officials, and community members to identify and

address economic development needs.

  • Help promote the community as an attractive place for investment and business
operations through various marketing initiatives.
  • Assist in managing economic development projects from conception to completion,
ensuring they are delivered on time and within budget.
  • Support the identification and application for grants and other funding opportunities to
support economic development initiatives.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of economic development policies and
regulations.
  • Act as a liaison between the economic development office and various community
partners, including businesses, community groups, and government agencies.
  • Help organize and participate in events, trade shows, and other activities to promote
economic development.
  • Prepare reports and documentation related to economic development activities and
outcomes.

  • Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a post-secondary program in Business

Administration, Economics, Marketing, Urban Planning, Public Administration, or a related
field. Alternatively, candidates with secondary education and relevant work experience in
economic development, community planning, marketing, or a related area will also be
considered.

  • Competence in using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) or equivalent
software, and understanding of file organization, storage, and retrieval, including cloud
storage solutions like One Drive.
  • BC Driver’s Licence Class 5 or 7 or equivalent.

This is a contract, full-time, exempt position that offers a competitive salary complemented by a
