Nestled in 60 acres of wilderness in the picturesque Cowichan Valley, Cedars strives to provide high quality care to 75 residents on their first steps in healing from substance use and co- occurring mental health disorders. POSITION SUMMARY
Reporting to the CSW Managers, Community Support Workers (CSW) ensure that Cedars operates in a manner that is consistent with the goals and objectives of the treatment program. CSWs support patients to uphold their responsibilities, based on the guidelines of the patient handbook and are responsible to ensure that patients’ rights are always protected. CSWs are a constant presence on the property; as such, they partner with patients through their entire journey at Cedars, utilizing a patient centered, collaborative approach to care.
ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Monitors all patients’ activities and ensures that such activities are conducted according to the Daily Schedule, and in alignment with Cedars Policies and Protocols
- Works in positive and consistent collaboration with all departments at Cedars to positively impact the patient experience.
- Makes scheduled and prescribed medications available to patients and documents each entry in the patient's electronic medical record.
- Maintains all documents according to standards, regulations, policies, and procedures. Ensuring confidentiality is maintained according to facility policy.
- Administers any required first aid in case of emergency.
- Documents any significant occurrences and general impressions of patients progress in their patient file on CIMS, consistent with CIMS Style Guide.
- Housekeeping tasks, as required - to maintain a healthy, respectful, recovery-oriented residences at all times.
- Participates in staff meetings and personal/professional development workshops, as requested.
- Performs other related duties, as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Community Support or Mental Health Worker certificate is preferred. A comparable combination of education and experience may be considered, at the discretion of the CSW Managers.
- Lived experience an asset
- Valid First Aid Certification
- Criminal Record Check
- Ability to clearly communicate verbally, and in writing.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to effectively interact with the various departments involved in the patient treatment process.
- Ability to collaborate and problem solve with other team members including counseling, medical, administrative, and support staff.
- A commitment to creating a positive environment conducive to healing for both patients and staff.
- Applicant’s identifying as being in Recovery require a minimum of one year of time substance-free before being considered for this role.
