What you'll do
The EVI group is involved in the research, analysis, planning, product development and construction management of
charging infrastructure and technologies for Electric Vehicles (EVs). Powertech offers a range of services, including
deployment planning and project management, EV charging technology assessment and suitability testing, procurement,
fleet conversion planning, grid impact assessment and mitigation, and network management services.
This is a hands-on, client and end-user focused role and the EIT will have an opportunity to exercise their technical and
interpersonal skills while growing their knowledge on EV technologies. Ongoing projects will include but will not be limited to
evaluation, assessment and testing of new charging hardware for performance, reliability and connectivity/interoperability as
well as research and development of EV charging infrastructure and equipment, including AC Level 2 chargers.
- Assist with the preparation of formal project proposals including budgeting and schedules.
- Provide input to detailed test plans for performing EV charger acceptance, integration, and user experience testing.
- Conduct and coordinate test activities, log test data and prepare test reports.
- Support day-to-day operations and maintenance of the DCFC network.
- Liaise with BC Hydro, EV charger manufacturers, and other OEMs to troubleshoot and resolve issues related to the EV
charger testing or chargers in operation.
- Perform power quality analysis and forensic studies.
- Analyze third-party study (such as power quality, acceptance test, or forensic results) and recommend solutions to
engineering problems of high-level complexity.
- Assist in project execution and client relationships, expectations, and deliverables.
- Provide input on project quality and coordinate with project team members.
- Collaborate and engage with the EVI team by attending technical conferences, giving presentations, and developing
business leads.
What you bring
- Bachelor’s or Post Graduate Degree in Engineering recognized by universities in Canada, preferably in Electrical
Engineering.
- Registered or eligible for immediate registration as an Engineer in Training (EIT) with the Engineers and Geoscientists of
British Columbia (EGBC)
- 1-2 years of experience as an Electrical Engineer in a similar position or an equivalent combination of training and
experience.
- Strong professional desire to develop a career in the field of EV Infrastructure
- Prior experience with EV Energy Management Systems, OCPP and OpenADR communication protocols, software
development would be an asset.
- Prior experience/knowledge with power electronics, preferably Electric Vehicle charging would be an asset.
- Prior experience/knowledge with AC and DC power quality would be an asset.
- Understanding and experience with the Canadian Electrical Code (Pt. 1, Pt.2 & Pt.3), IEEE guides / color books, BC
Hydro design guides, Municipal design guides and specifications would be an asset.
- Holds a valid Class 5 driver's license
- Takes a "Safety First" mindset while working
