Intent of the process
The immediate need is to fill one (1) indeterminate position in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
A pool of qualified or partially qualified candidates may be established and may be used to staff similar permanent or temporary positions with different language and security requirements in research centers across Canada

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)
EDUCATION
- Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with specialization in entomology or a related discipline (i.e., biological sciences, ecology).
Degree equivalency
✅ EXPERIENCES
- Experience providing technical support.
- Experience using taxonomic keys for insect identification.
- Experience establishing and maintaining healthy laboratory colonies of insects.
- Experience coordinating and conducting entomological research activities in a lab or field environment.
- Experience supervising staff.
✅ KNOWLEDGE
- Knowledge of research in insect ecology and integrated pest management (including biological control).
- Knowledge of field entomology methods and equipment to assess changes in insect populations.
- Knowledge of methods to preserve insects for identification.

✅ ABILITIES
- Ability to use scientific equipment and to apply and adapt scientific techniques and methodologies.
- Ability to prepare accurate data sheets.

ASSET EDUCATION
- Graduation with a master’s degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with specialization in entomology or a related discipline (i.e., biology, ecology).
Degree equivalency

- Experience conducting research in stored product entomology.
- Experience in using molecular techniques (i.e., DNA barcoding), equipment and software to identify insect species.

Reliability Status security clearance
- Possession of a valid class 5, Manitoba driver’s license, or other provincial/territorial equivalency.
- Ability and willingness to work outdoors under various weather conditions.
- Ability and willingness to occasionally work overtime including evenings and weekends.
- Ability and willingness to work with chemicals, pesticides, radiations, and other hazardous materials.
- Ability and willingness to control known allergies through the use of personal protective equipment and/or medication in a manner that does not impinge upon the duties to be performed.
- Ability and willingness to work in hot or cold environment in confined spaces (e.g., grain bins).
- Ability and willingness to perform physically demanding work activities, including moderate to heavy manual work such as moving objects up to 25 kg.
