2025 - Waiter required on beautiful Scottish island

POSTED ON 1/31/2025 AVAILABLE BEFORE 3/30/2025
Raasay House Edinburgh, SA Full Time
JOB DESCRIPTION: If you are friendly, outgoing, and love engaging with people, we want to have you on our front of house team! We deliver great service, warm hospitality, and delicious food to all of our guests. We serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner menus to a variety of guests ranging from those staying at Raasay House or the various B&Bs on the island, the Raasay Distillery (which has six bedrooms), local residents, day visitors and holiday home guests depending on the serving period. Our hotel has 24 rooms of varying sizes, which means we have up to 70 guests staying with us each night. Typical covers in our restaurant range from 80-100 at dinner service during the summer months and 30-50 covers at lunchtime. We also serve breakfast to roughly 50 guests each morning and operate a cafe in the building during the day. Our full-time front of house staff peak at around 10, including a bartender, during the high season and shrinks down to five during the quieter months. The ideal candidate for this role has some experience using an espresso machine or bartending (or both!) as well as previous experience waiting tables. During April, September and October (and other odd times) we have groups such as musicians, yoga groups and photographers (groups are usually between 12 and 25) or weddings (50-100 guests). These are usually staying on a dinner, bed & breakfast, or full board basis. We would usually require set menus prepared and tailored to the groups in advance as larger groups will pre-order meals. What do we expect from you? That you will be well presented & punctual. That you will keep your service areas clean and tidy. That you will know our menus and make sure that you keep up-to-date with changes. That you will follow all correct payment handling procedures. You may undertake other duties to assist other departments. WAGE: This is a seasonal position offering an hourly rate of £12.60, plus tips, which are shared among staff based on hours worked. DURATION OF EMPLOYMENT & LIFESTYLE BENEFITS: Our business is a seasonal one and we work very hard in the 8-month season that we are open. A typical work week is anywhere from 40-48 hours, spread over five or six days. We close all Sundays (except for breakfast, which we serve to a smaller number of guests than during the week). All employees get a 30-minute unpaid break on shifts that last for more than 6 hours. We also offer paid leave calculated at 12.07%, equivalent to 28 days annually. We take fair pay very seriously and use a straightforward system to clock in and out on all shifts, which means you are paid for every minute you work. Raasay is a very small island, so we offer subsidised accommodation as part of our staffing package. You can stay in a room in the staff house in Inverarish village (about 20 minutes’ walk from the hotel) or a single wooden cabin on site if you prefer (1 minute walk from the hotel). All staff meals are included every day, whether you are working or not. Other benefits include free outdoor activity sessions, wildlife boat trips, free bike hire, and discounts throughout the hotel for you and your friends and family. We participate in the ride-to-work scheme as well as UK pension and other employee benefits. Please note that we have plenty of housekeeping, bar, reception, and kitchen jobs available so feel free to include a CV for your partner or a friend when applying. All candidates must be able to demonstrate that they are legally allowed to work in the UK. ABOUT US: Raasay House is a unique island hotel and outdoor activity provider.
